In the beginning there was nothing, only Dark and directionless waters named NUN.
Atum (God of sun, also called RA) created himself by uttering his own name. He was responsible for bringing order to the heavens and the earth. He emerged from the chaotic darkness of NUN as a mythical Bennu bird. He flew to Heliopolis, where at dawn he and alighted on the Benben, an obelisk representing a ray of the sun. After fashioning a nest of aromatic boughs and spices, he was consumed in a fire and miraculously sprang back to life.
